Beinan Township is located in the mid-west of Taitung County (121° East Longitude and 22.3° North Latitude) at the southern tip of Huatung Gorge Plain. With an area of 412.6871 km², it is situated between the Central Mountain and the Coastal Mountain. Over 60% of the township is hillside fields, and the rest has hillocks, plateaus, etc. This township neighbors Taitung City and Tunghe Township. Facing the Pacific Ocean in the east and connecting to Taimali in the south, it connects to Luye and Yenping, with mountains as their natural borders.
With mountains at the back, Beinan Township embraces the sea, with Chiben River, Lichia River, and Beinan River running through it. With rich natural and sightseeing resources, such as mountains, rivers, hot springs, the ocean, etc, it is well-known at home and abroad, contributing greatly to the development of tourism.
Climate and Water Resources
Located south of the Tropic of Cancer, Beinan Township is in the tropical zone. With Kuroshio of the Pacific Ocean passing by, high temperatures prevail throughout the year. However, the temperature remains constant, averaging 24ºC. From May to September every year is the southwest monsoon season. From October to March is the northwest monsoon season. Here, the four seasons cannot be identified clearly. With annual rainfall of 1900mm, there is more rain during the summer.
